FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Rep. Forster with Energy ExpertsAt Seattle legislative energy academyFebruary 10, 2005 -- State Rep. Ron Forster, chairman of the House Interstate Cooperation Committee, attended a weekend-long seminar with top energy experts and other state legislators to discuss today’s most pressing energy issues. The American Legislative Exchange Council hosted it’s sixth annual Energy Sustainability Academy for state legislators Feb. 4-7 in Seattle Wash. Eighty-five legislators from 22 states were in attendance. “The Energy Academy was such a unique opportunity for me to discuss environmental, economic, and energy policy issues with some of our nation’s top scientific experts. We examined various types of regulations that need streamlining to be in tune with today’s energy needs and the nation’s energy outlook,” Forster said. Specific issues addressed during the academy included future energy supply and demand; climate change science; mercury emissions; positive trends in air quality; and sound science-based energy policy. “The Academy seminars have been an outstanding success in educating our members on the environmental issues facing the states,” said Duanne Parde, ALEC’s executive director. “By opening the dialogue between legislators and the scientific community, our leaders will be better able to make informed decisions based on facts when making environmental policy.” Keynote Speakers at the Academy included Dr. Patrick Michaels, a research professor of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia; Dr. Robert Bradley, president of the Institute for Energy Research; and Dr. David Legates, a climatologist at the University of Delaware. Rep. Forster is in his third term as a state representative for North Georgia. For More Information Contact:
